The Networking Product Architect is an entry level position in the Networking Product Architects job family and usually operates at a business division or country level, dealing with less complex Networking product architecture projects and assignments.
The primary objective of the Networking Product Architect is to conceptualise, scope and ensure the development of new Networking products and services that provide value to Dimension Data clients. They will specify and design less complex solutions based on their technical expertise across multiple domains. This will include the ability to design user interaction models, workflows and user interfaces.
What you’ll be doing
Scope new product concept
The Networking Product Architect contributes to the evaluation of opportunities that have been identified to ensure that new product concepts are scoped and developed in response to these opportunities and are aligned to the Networking product roadmap. They own the proposed product concept and transition the build/implementation to the product delivery/development team. These individuals prepare documentation to support the proposed product concept and perform the actual product design based on marketing requirements.
Build business case
These individuals are expected to develop and articulate the reasons and benefits of investing in a new product or improving on existing products. They build the business case by:
Defining and describing the target and customer market
Defining how the client in the target market will benefit from the product
Documenting the assumptions and facts that validate the market opportunity
Indicating the size and growth forecasts of the market segment or target market
Determining the current or expected competitive pressure for the product idea
Defining the industry sales and market trends the product idea is based on
Evaluating the technical feasibility to manufacture the product
Evaluating the profitability of the product in terms of manufacturing and delivery to the customer in relation to the target price
Evaluating the opportunity for alignment with Dimension Data capabilities and business policy
Specify business requirements
The Networking Product Architect compiles business requirements to realise the product concept including:
the information gathered from the market in regards to Networking needs
the proposed solution or technological opportunity
documented statement of work along with the relevant labour requirements
parts list outlining equipment to be provided
technical resources required for an accurate design
all deliverables and what constitutes a successful completion
Specify functional requirements
Networking Product Architects ensure that the features and functions provided by the product is identified and documented, including but not limited to the:
engineering demands that shape the product’s development environment
conformance demands that shape the product, detailing the condition that the support the product and constitute the environment in which the product will operate
performance requirements, such as speed, usability, capacity or scalability
written documentation and support in terms of operating the product
high level physical attributes of the product, such as size, colour, dimension and construction materials
need for training and user support
product diagram or architecture
They provide a general description of the product and its purpose.
Networking Product Architects are good team players who practice two-way communication and listen to and understands other’s point of view. They have good analytical capability and demonstrate the ability to collaborate and communicate effectively. They demonstrate well-developed presentation skills and are resourceful individuals. These individuals demonstrate good attention to detail and are able to conceptualise new designs that meet business and client requirements.
Required Work Experience:
At least 3 – 5 years’ work experience
At least 3 years’ experience in services within a large scale (preferably multinational) technology services environment
